Positive
Positive was included in the Top 50 best teleplays in the Cinequest Screenwriting Contest in 2017. It will receive a Zoom reading directed by Quentin Madia in November, 2020.
Set in 1991 and based on the real-life experiences of writer Michelle Fiordaliso, Positive is a 30-minute TV pilot about Julia Magliano, a young social worker driven to fight AIDS in a NYC hospital while fighting her own battle with bisexual feelings and a crisis of faith.
Books like The Great Believers and plays likeTony-nominated Inheritance confirm the need for the narrative legacy of this critical time in history. As we currently find ourselves in a pandemic, there are also important political and activist parallels that can be drawn.
Positive tells the story of AIDS from an angle we haven’t seen before — the frontline workers — the ones who chose to be there.

Weaving verité footage with the penultimate interview of Mahmud, the film shows Mahmud and Mirza’s lives intersecting in a transformational way. Mahmud’s message of peace, empathy and self-expression lives even after her tragic murder.
